Following the notoriously dreary winter and wet spring months in the Pacific Northwest, summer amplifies our sense of aliveness, of being in the world among other beings. Its arrival marks a turn outward as long stretches of daylight bend the hardened habits of cold weather into amicable new ones. Temperaments become whimsical yet cognizant—we are uniquely attuned to the exterior and we want to revel in it, to enjoy one another. For ILY2, the essence of summer lends itself to an exhibition viewed from the sunshine or in the warm nighttime air. Inspired by the season’s invitation for pleasure and pause, the group show will run through August during the gallery’s summer closure and feature a rotating curation of works displayed in the windows and visible from the street. Such passing encounters with artwork keep the public engaged with ILY2 while the staff briefly step away from their desks. Through this break for family, friends, and self, the exhibition is a reminder of the gallery’s constant commitment to the artists and audiences that make up their community. The sidewalk fête celebrates both the leisure and vibrancy of the season, propelled by the singular energy of the artist.
Artists included in Gone fishin’ are Dylan Beckman, Morgan Buck, Rachel Collier, David Eckard, Sasha Fishman, Derek Franklin, Emma Kohlmann, Tanner Lind, Bonnie Lucas, Miraj Patel, Leena Similu and Rachel Youn.
The exhibition will be on view in our gallery windows beginning August 3rd, and artworks will rotate throughout the month. We encourage you to come visit often.
