ILY2 is pleased to present And down below the earth shown bright, our inaugural summer show featuring the work of nine international artists: Rae Davis, Sara Greenberger Rafferty, Eve Fowler, sidony o’neal, Nicole Ondre, Paige Powell, Ido Radon, Sara Rahmanian, and Davina Semo. The works selected for the exhibition are delimited by their palette: monochrome, black and white, shades of grey, metallic.

In the studio, an artist applies constraints, strips the work down to its basic elements and opens new possibilities. When color is removed from the equation, image sharpens, form and texture take precedent. A limited palette is a first level of abstraction, foregrounding the mediation of reality performed by any artwork.

It is these new possibilities that the show is thinking about through these varied works. As a summer show, it coheres in a more loose, more casual manner appropriate to its time of year.
